Networking

In computing, a firewall is a network security system that controls the incoming on an applied rule set. A firewall typically establishes a barrier between a trusted, secure internal network and another network (e.g., the Internet) that is assumed not to be secure and trusted, so anyone who is responsible for a private network that is connected to a public network needs firewall protection.

Firewalls allow network administrators to offer access to specific types of Internet services to selected LAN users. This selectivity is an essential part of any information management program, and involves not only protecting private information assets, but also knowing who has access to what and that’s where UTM [Unified Threat Management] comes in picture.

UTM is the evolution of the traditional firewall into an all-inclusive security product able to perform multiple security functions within one single system: network firewalling, network intrusion prevention and gateway antivirus (AV), gateway anti-spam, VPN, content filtering, load balancing, data leak prevention and on-appliance reporting.

The main advantages of UTM solutions are simplicity, streamlined installation and use, and the ability to update all the security functions concurrently.

Key advantages

  1. Reduced complexity: Single solution. Single Vendor. Single AMC
  2. Simplicity: Avoidance of multiple software installation and maintenance
  3. Easy Management: Plug & Play Architecture, Web-based GUI for easy management
  4. Reduced technical training requirements, one product to learn.
  5. Regulatory compliance

Some of the well-known UTM vendors include Cyberoam, SonicWALL, Cisco Systems, WatchGuard, Fortinet, Sophos, etc. with varying feature sets and capabilities. Concerned about your Network Security, feel free to Contact Us for more information…
